Variety has reported that Warner Bros. has green-lit the live-action film adaption of Akira. It also reported that Garrett Hedlund, star of Tron: Legacy, is the front-runner for one of the two male leads.
Production will begin in late February or early March.
The adaption will be set in New Manhattan, and follows the leader of a biker gang who must save his friend, discovered with potentially destructive psychokinetic powers.
