Bandai to Release Akira Film on DVD

North American distributor Bandai Entertainment announced at their San Diego Comic-Con panel and via Twitter that they have licensed the film Akira. The film will be re-released on DVD.

Currently no release date has been set. The new release comes after a new edition of Akira was released in Japan.

Directed by Katsuhiro Otomo, and written by Otomo and Izo Hashimoto, the film follows a young man living in a dystopian Neo-Tokyo in 2019, Tetsuo Shima, his abilities and Shotaro Kaneda, a biker gang member who tries to hunt Tetsuo down from releasing Akira.
